Computer games are interesting for many kinds of people: School kids that play with their friends, students that earn money with gaming or employees that want to relax after work. But do you really benefit of video games or are they just an annihilation of brain cells?
As scientific test have proven, games increase the player‘s capacity of reaction, especially racing and action games. In addition, ego-shooters can raise the team capacities and the attention of the player. But there are also games for the mind, like adventures, where the player has to solve riddles, or simple chess games.
Another positive effect of playing games is relaxation: The player can forget his every day troubles for an hour or two and remove himself from his environment. That is extremely important to calm down after a stressful day and be able to see the things from a different point of view.
Of course you should not forget about the negative aspects of gaming: Many games, especially Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) like „World of Warcraft“, have an extremely high potential of addiction. There are adolescents that spend sixteen hours or more a day inside their virtual world, totally disregarding things like school, friends or sports. These people grow overweight and depressed, finding no other joy in life than their online character.
In conclusion, computer games can be good fun and a great way to escape the everyday life for some hours, but you should always think about the other things in life that can distract you from a hard day, like going out with your friends or riding your bicycle.
